Loving the green sprouts straw cup

We've been struggling to get Sej to eat enough for a long time but I've always had more than enough milk for him. I recently found something that helps a bit though. The green sprouts straw cup is easy for him to use between feedings and the tip is soft and not long enough for him to gag himself on...which is a big deal for us. Lol, Sej gags himself on EVERYTHING. It is earth-friendly, safe and unlike most sippy cups, Sej is actually able to use it. He only drinks about an ounce at a time from it, but at least he's getting something! I highly recommend it to anyone introducing their baby to a cup.

For those of you who used to follow my blog, thank you and I apologize for being so inactive with it! I'm going to take it in a new direction and still talk about wellness but now I want it to be more about my little family and what we are learning along the way through our organic and more active lifestyle. Stay tuned!

The farm

A friend of mine from back in college has started a new business. Knowing her and knowing the level of perfection that she demands, I have no doubt in my mind that this venture will be a huge success. If you are planning an event and are looking for a company that will take care of everything, this is where you need to go.

Thanksgiving stomach soothers

Happy Holidays from Maya Massage & Spa! It's the season of over-eating...and while we all have a lot of fun stuffing ourselves the way we stuff our turkeys, it can have you agonizing over that decision later. There are a few things you can do to help your body handle the Turkey day. To start things off, make sure you have a great digestive enzyme ready to help you through the meal. It will give your digestive system the ability to digest all that food more effectively.

If you find that what you've eaten doesn't agree with you, some aloe juice will help to soothe your stomach. Also, taking a long walk will help to get the calorie burning process started. Scheduling a massage after all that hard work in the kitchen will help you to de-stress and including abdominal massage will help to regulate your digestive system as well. Another stomach soothing and mood boosting beverage is peppermint tea.

Of course, if there is drinking involved in the evening, please make responsible choices. Consider Round Trip 101 to get you home. They will ride to your destination on a scooter, fold it up, put it in the trunk of your car and drive you and your car home for you. It is a great way to avoid an accident or a DUI. Have a happy and safe holiday!

Relaxing with hypnotherapy

Today I went in for a hypnotherapy session with Athena Sees of Carpe Diem hypnotherapy. I wanted to see if there could be a possibility of incorporating her into my referral base. During my session we talked about ways to deal with stress and how to handle conflicts in a more effective manner to avoid becoming agitated when things don't go the way a person wants them to. We talked about the causes of stress and how for many people it is due to a feeling of helplessness. By learning to work towards creating a desired outcome and accepting that it is okay if that outcome morphs into something a little different, a person can learn to detach and let go of a significant amount of stress.
The reason why this relates to massage therapy is that emotional stress obviously has negative effects in every aspect of our lives. My goal as a therapist is to help people reach a state of homeostasis, or balance. I can work on the body, but unless there is someone dealing with the deeper seeded issues, the body will return to a state of tension and inevitably pain and often injury as well. Our muscles reflect what our mind is struggling with.
Athena and I talked about coupling our services together and creating a package deal where a person can have hypnotherapy and then a massage, or the other way around. We also threw around the idea of offering hypnotherapy during a massage. I would be interested to hear what people think about these ideas, as I've never seen a service like that offered.

The new website is up!

After a few weeks of work and learning a bit of html, I finally got my new website up! I would love some help getting it recognized by google via +1's yelp reviews and liking my page on facebook. :) Hitting the plus one button actually recommends my page to google, so that is much appreciated. :) I am willing to do the same for any of you who have a site you want more traffic to. Love and hugs!  Here is the new site, check it out and if you have any feedback, let me know. www.mayamassageandspa.com

Great DIY face mask for acne

Before my wedding I was a little crazed when it came to my skin...and other things. :) I ended up spending what I'm sure came out to a couple thousand dollars on supplements and facial products in an attempt to clear up my skin before the big day. I wish I knew then what I know now!

My amazing husband kept telling me that in India women will use Tumeric on their face because of its anti-bacterial properties. I thought he was just being a punk and wanted my face to turn yellow. Turns out that was part of it...lol. But it actually works wonders for your skin if you turn it into a mask with baking soda and lemon juice. The lemon juice has a slight acidity that will also provide exfoliation. I use this mask every other night now and I use it as a spot treatment for problem acne. Because of the stress of planning a wedding in two and a half months, I had cystic acne as well as the normal little bumps. This has worked wonders for me! My skin is pretty much break out free!

The wonder mask (only turns your skin slightly yellow if you use too much tumeric, and it washes off with face wash)
1/8 cup baking soda, 1/2 tsp tumeric and enough lemon juice to make it into a mask. You mix it up, apply it to your freshly washed face, leave it on until it dries and then rinse it off. Then apply a light moisturizer and you're done! I save the left overs in the fridge and use it again in a day or so. It can dry out your skin if you use it too much, so don't overdo it. Everyone's face is different, but it has worked for me. I hope it works for you!
