People are always asking me what they can do at home to help get rid of their back, neck, or shoulder pain. Those seem to be the big three issues. Of course coming in for massages helps immensely, but there are things you can do between massages to help. Most of the time the best answer is simple...move!!! If you have sore muscles but have not strained or sprained a muscle, the answer is usually simple. Stretch, exercise and keep moving. Sitting around doing nothing will not help your case...at all. In fact, it will make it worse.
Yoga is a great way to get the stretching in and taking a structured course will help to ensure you avoid injury. It will also help to build up your core muscles which is also essential to eliminating back pain. Take it easy, and don't go overboard the first time. Make sure you get a good stretch in for your pecs though!
My husband gave me some great advice to help deal with my muscle aches. Eating fresh pineapple regularly works great for me and is a secret that many body builders use! I dont know why it works, but I love that it does!
I also highly recommend espom salt baths. Just throw a cup of epsom salt into the bath, relax and of course remember to stay hydrated! Dehydrated muscles are unhappy muscles and are more prone to injury and fatigue.
Of course, you know I have to throw this in there. If you have severe or persistent back pain that is not solved through strength training or any of my other suggestions, see a doctor to ensure there are no issues which require medical care.
